Paul Goodman, a writer, a radical, and a renaissance man, was the co-author
of “Banning Cars from Manhattan,” a 1961 proposal to improve New York’s
streets by eliminating private auto traffic. Nearly half a century later,
his ideas are now heralded as being before their time, with limiting
traffic in city centers becoming more and more common.

Paul Goodman Changed My Life is honoring Goodman’s legacy by inviting
people to propose change in their own communities. Anyone who submits five
proposals to their local government (mayor, city council, etc.) can enter a
drawing to win a new bicycle. One winner in the United States will win a

It has always been easy for me... almost too easy to get my thighs into stellar shape. I never fit into jeans well because my thighs are all bulky with muscle. Sure it helped with jumping (back in the Basketball days) until I strained my ACL... poor ACL. Now I am a sprinting beast with no track around me to take out my frustration. The 8.8 mile commute on the Yale bike path gets me pumped and then the 8.8 miles back is nice but I constantly want MORE. More distance... more speed... more land travelled on my bike. The pinner legs of champion stage cyclists are quite the opposite of mine. I recently discovered that I have track cyclists legs. This would explain the brutality I feel as I try to ascend every hill longer than a mile. So stage racing isn't for me... today is the day that I come to terms with that. Sad in a sense but pretty cool in another. I have always been a good sprinter on foot and apparently I have seamlessly transitioned into a great sprinter on the bicycle as well. Here are some pic of the German Team Sprinters that I found. Gnar?

When I first started riding bikes in San Francisco the signals were:

Green, Flashing red hand (that was timed differently for different intersections), Yellow then Red.

I remember in around 2002 they started putting “count downs” on the signals letting you know when yellow/red was approaching. That definitely changed the way I rode at high speeds in the city (if you care). If you have these in your city, use em’. They give me a certain level of comfort when I’m feeling “off the hook”.

Massan's been doin it for a while now. I just started riding in 2007 and these lights have been a great help. If you ride then remember this advice... it will help for sure.

I put batteries in the old Kodak and this is some of the magic that happened last month. More to come hopefully. Ness is the subject of almost all of my photos this time around... and some carbon breaks which were pretty gnarly to say the least. I am going to start bringing my camera with me on my commutes though so we will see what happens.

Found this group called La Melodia (The Melody) on a lineup for the Appelsap HipHop Festival in Oosterpark which happened on August 1st. New Jamis Eclipse and Vanessa's Jamis Satellite

Vanessa ended up getting the Jamis Satellite Femme. The steel is very real in my household now. She uses it has her daily commuter as well. We are still looking out for a bike to carry heavier loads and good rechargeable lights to outfit our rigs with for night rides. On Saturday we went on a little morning ride to break in our shifting cables and just enjoy our morning. Thanks to Tobi we ate some milch reiss 30 minutes before our ride and felt great the whole time. Ness had a sore lower back and some stiffness of the shoulders at the end of the 20 mile ride but hey... her longest ride was 10 miles before this one so I'm impressed to say the least. She climbed Martin Luther King St. with speed and stregth. Her fitness level is incredibly high despite never training for anything. We are just going further and further from now on. I plan on getting a MapMyRide.com membership soon so that I can get some maps put on my blog and get better info on my rides. More updates to come.

Here's a little back story to my new bike purchase. So at the end of May I was hit by a motorist on my way to school. It was completely his fault and to make a long story short I collected $2k for property damages and some other amount for hospital bills. I am fine which is the more amazing part but the less amazing part is pretty awesome as well. Now I finally get a chance to EP a bike and save some coin in the process. So I went with the Jamis Eclipse. Why? The decision to go with the Eclipse took a month to make. I asked some buddies at the shop and I was hearing from a lot of the younger guys that carbon was the way to go. "Don't put your money into anything but carbon... CARBON CARBON CARBON CARBON!!!!" Yes carbon is great, it is light, it is stiff, it is efficient when it comes to getting from A to B the fastest. I agree. I have ridden carbon though. I've ridden the highest end Colnago, Look, Time and Merckx. Call me dumb but the felt ... dry. Like a hollow coconut. No milk on the inside. Like a dry brain after a night of hard drinking. Sure it was light but the ride was too stiff, too hollow, to PING-y. I've been riding an old steel Olmo Pista for 3 years and that thing rides like a dream. Sure it is old and made of a heavier material but the comfort is hands down the dopest dope. The bumps of the road push back on me and give me mere milli-seconds to allow me to smooth them out whereas on the carbon frames each bump snaps at you like a whip and leaves you feeling cold and used... maybe worried as well as you ponder the idea of cracking your carbon. The Jamis comes with 853 heat treated tubing and an Ultegra 6700 group. Little bit of high-end steel mixed with modern high end components. The FSA SLK crankset will soon be sold for a matching compact Ultegra crank and the American Classic 420 wheelset which will be sold for a better climbing or crit wheelset. More on that decision later.

For now, this is the bike for me. The paint job ain't half bad either. Simple and classic almost. Red really isn't my color but for the price I got... I'm lovin' it. Can't wait to crest the Sandias next weekend.

I went to Massan's blog to check it out and saw this youtube video.

Apparently this is considered a dope tune. The beat was dope.... GRIMEY almost... but the lyrics said nothing to me. I can't really relate at all the the hyped rap music of today. Everytime I listen to a rap tune I think about the great Hip Hop out there and it trumps the shit out of the contemporary rap tune. The song below isn't Hip Hop but I have to share it.
