Jan. 12 Dennis Chavez Climb to Sunset

So if anyone reading this blog didn't know, I finally moved out of Gilroy, CA and into my cousin's house in Albuquerque, NM (New Mexico). What is Albuquerque you ask? Albuquerque is a little oasis in the New Mexican desert. It is rich in Spanish, Native American, Mexican, and New Mexican culture. The Rio Grande River is at the heart of Albuquerque. Also, situated on the east side of Albuquerque are the beautiful Sandia Mountains (as seen here).

I live on the far west side of town in Westgate; Westgate is right next to (about a 20 minute bike ride) from the Petroglyphs, as seen here.

We are about two hours away from Colorado... nationally acclaimed as the "outdoor mecca of America"... or something like that. I haven't been but a lot of crazy endurance teams are training out there. The elevation where I live is a solid 5,000 feet above sea level... not shabby. Albuquerque's an oasis for all of those reasons, PLUS, we have the amazing Rio Grande that flows through the center of the city... toooo beautiful. I ride my bike right next to it on my way to school. It's my paradise.... except when I jump off the bike path and have to ride next to cars again. FUCK CARS.

I digress, after I got finished moving all of my stuff into my room I decided to take the new Blue Competition Cycles RC4 for a climb. Not just any climb though. It's the Dennis Chavez climb.... right in my backyard basically. Probably about a 2 miles of straight climb if u start at the bottom. I don't start at the bottom though. My climb starts right at the point where the hill takes a nasty turn into Steep-town. I descend it every morning on my way to school and work too..... toooo fun. This is the view from the top when the sun is going down. Enjoy.

  1. All the pics are nice but how about some story or something to go along with? How was the ride? Where did you go? How was the weather? Did you fall? Now that you live in New Mexico you gotta add mor content to the posts so we as readers know whats up. Just my 2 cents
